Segerstrom Center for the Arts is thrilled to welcome Houston Ballet to our campus for the very first time with a thrilling program, Stanton Welch’s Sons de L’âme!

Making its West Coast debut, the intimate and elegant Sons de L’âme (Sounds of the Soul) choreographed by Houston Ballet Artistic Director Stanton Welch AM is set to piano pieces by Frédéric Chopin.  With renowned pianist George Li sharing the stage with 20 members of the acclaimed company, the ballet blends hypnotic solos with dramatic, elaborate partnerings and ensemble sections - showcasing not only the technical skill of the dancers but also the romantic, emotional nature of Chopin’s music.  The choreography is designed to merge with the music, allowing the dancers to feed off the live piano performance (and vice versa)!

Founded in 1969, Houston Ballet has grown to become the nation’s fourth-largest ballet company, lauded for their artistic excellence, exhilarating performances and innovative choreography. Led by Artistic Directors Julie Kent and Stanton Welch AM, and Executive Director Sonja Kostich, Houston Ballet presents a dynamic repertory spanning classical masterworks and contemporary innovation, while touring internationally with a global reach across 116 countries.

Combining youthful abandon with utter command, George Li burst onto the classical music scene, making his Carnegie Hall debut at the age of 11 and winning the silver medal at the 2015 International Tchaikovsky Competition. His artistry has only matured and he is regarded as one of today's most talented and creative pianists, with the Washington Post praising his “staggering technical prowess, a sense of command and depth of expression.”

Don’t miss the Houston Ballet and pianist George Li as they perform this gorgeous new ballet in its entirety for only the third time!
