This spring at the Center love is in the air. In this issue we look at the new Broadway and London hit musical An American in Paris. This is a love story as well as a love letter to Paris, which is practically a character in itself. Based on the Gene Kelly film of the same name, and with the memorable music of George Gershwin, audiences will fall in love with this tale of an American GI who stays in Paris after the war to be an artist and falls in love with a French ballerina. A contemporary love story unfolds in the musical The Bodyguard, which was a sell-out success in London. Here, superstar singer Rachel Marron falls in love with her bodyguard, hired to protect her from a mysterious stalker. It's filled with hit songs, including "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody." More love is in the air when crooner Steve Tyrell returns to Samueli Theater. He brings his acclaimed new show, A New Standard, which includes classics from the Great American Songbook. Even our exciting Bollywood extravaganza, Taj Express, centers on a love story. The protagonist plots his film story about a beautiful Indian movie star and a seemingly poor man of the streets who rescues her from her unhappy life. With a surprise plot twist, there's a happy ending for all. It's told through a fusion of film, dance and music—a high-energy celebration of new Bollywood culture, India's pop music and deep traditions, featuring colorful costumes, joyful dance and thrilling live music. Bring your love for the performing arts to the Center and join us for one or more of these shows!
