Dazzling praise from the London press, a smash hit run in London's West End and a sell-out UK & Ireland tour couldn't be a better springboard for the North American premiere of The Bodyguard. With four nominations for Laurence Olivier Awards (the British Tony® ) and those phenomenal songs such as "I Will Always Love You" and "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" prompting standing ovations, the show has been the hottest ticket in town!

The production tells the original story, as written in the screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan, of a bodyguard who is hired to protect superstar Rachel Marron from a stalker. Under original British director Thea Sharrock's direction, various themes have been embellished for the stage production. "The most important thing was to get the arc of the relationship and interweaving it with the stalker, because without him you wouldn't need Frank, the bodyguard," explains Sharrock. "One of the things that we went further on was the role of Rachel's sister, which was quite different in the film. We wanted to create a triangle around what happens when two sisters whose lives are locked up in a big celebrity world both fall in love with the same Mr. Perfect. It's a thriller and a kaleidoscope of love stories."

Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan originally wrote the screenplay for The Bodyguard in 1975 as a vehicle for Steve McQueen (it was finally produced in 1992). Twenty-one other major motion pictures round out Kasdan's career, including the screenplay for the first Indiana Jones film, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Star Wars films The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and the recent Episode VII – The Force Awakens.
