Apollon Musagète Quartet teams up with pianist Garrick Ohlsson for a wondrous concert in Samueli Theater this October. Known as a dynamic quartet whose popularity on the European classical music scene continues to soar, Apollon Musagète Quartet is one of the most creative and charismatic ensembles in international music.
Bach: The Art of The Fugue, BWV 1080 Nos. 1, 4 and 9
Penderecki: Quartet No. 3 "Leaves from an Unwritten Diary"
Shostakovich: Piano Quintet in G minor, Op. 57
Founded in 2006, Apollon Musagète Quartet is comprised of four musicians: violinists Pawel Zalejski and Bartosz Zachlod, violist Piotr Szumiel and cellist Piotr Skweres. Their work together as a group has been heralded as “distinguished by an enormous dynamic range, an unusual malleability of phrasing, and a wide palette of color” (Cleveland Classical). Joining this quartet’s performance is award-winning classical pianist Garrick Ohlsson, the only American to win first prize in the VIII International Chopin Piano Competition.
As our season opener, Apollon Musagète Quartet and Garrick Ohlsson bring the music of Bach, Penderecki and Shostakovich to our stage in a captivating performance that’s sure to delight.
This performance includes a pre-show talk with musicologist Dr. Byron Adams and will make for a perfect night of classical music.
