In partnership with the Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation, Segerstrom Center for the Arts presents its first ever Juneteenth celebration on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza! Join us for this themed Summer Sounds concert celebrating Black innovation and musical creativity with J.Mike and Friends.

J.Michael O’Neal is a Los-Angeles based pianist whose sound traverses jazz, pop, and gospel with a fresh approach that blends intricate harmonies with urban-rhythmic undercurrents. His music can best be described as soulfully authentic, passionate, and imaginative. His unique talent gave him the opportunity to work with artists like James Ingram, Melissa Manchester, Jon Gibson, Tyrone Wells, Peabo Bryson, Cece Winans, and Brian Duncan. His conceptual groove stirs listeners to RE-Imagine Music. J.Michael’s music bridges the genre gap, fusing together diverse musical elements to create unique sounds in the music industry.

Summer Sounds on the Plaza is a casual and welcoming series of sunset concerts reflecting the global communities and diverse musical influences found in Southern California.

Freedom in Full Bloom: A Juneteenth Celebration is a two-day celebration of Black innovation and resilience curated by Dr. Natalie Graham, Director of the Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation; with historical consultation provided by Dr. Jamila Moore Pewu,

Pod Info & Safety Precautions:
The $10 ticket price for this event includes one socially distanced viewing area (or “pod”). Only you and those attending with you will be seated in your assigned pod. Concert goers should plan to bring their own folding chairs and refreshments as these will not be provided. Refreshments will be available to purchase courtesy of Silver Trumpet. Concert goers are welcome to bring their own refreshments however due to space and sightline limitations, tables, barbecues, and food preparation will not be permitted on the Plaza.

Masks must be worn by all guests upon check-in and until they arrive to their assigned viewing areas. Each viewing area will be separated by 6 feet of space from neighboring viewing areas. Contactless check-in will include a touchless thermometer temperature check and hand sanitizer stations will be accessible throughout the Plaza.
