2022-2023 Season
Segerstrom Center for the Arts is proud to present On Stage at the Center, a series of live performances intended for local students to attend during the school day as a field trip. This series offers a variety of performances from international, award-winning theater companies and professional artists to inspire and engage your students.
All performances are held in Segerstrom Center's 300-seat Samueli Theater and seats are filled on a first come first served basis. Tickets are only $5-8 per person and the Center will reimburse your bus costs (See "Bus Rebates" tab for more information)!

The Joshua Show: Episode One
A modern-day Mr. Rogers with hipster appeal, Joshua Holden and his puppet sidekick, Mr. Nicholas, return to Segerstrom Center with The Joshua Show: Episode One. When Mr. Nicholas makes an unnerving self-discovery that causes him to spiral down a path of loneliness and hopeless despair, it’s up to Joshua and his cast of characters, including Larry the Lint and the Wonderbook, to show his best friend the joy in being yourself. With live music, tap dancing, physical comedy, and multiple styles of puppetry, this whimsical show is sure to bring out everyone’s joyful side.

Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster
Leonardo is a terrible monster. He tries so hard to be scary, but he just…isn’t. Then Leonardo finds Sam, the most scaredy-cat kid in the world. Will Leonardo finally get his chance to scare the tuna salad out of an unsuspecting human? Or will it be the start of an unlikely friendship? This live theater production is adapted from the beloved children’s books by Mo Willems, and realized through live actors, 3D puppets, DIY cinema, and immersive sound by critically acclaimed multimedia artists Manual Cinema.

North
Follow precocious Lawrence and his mother, Minnie, as they escape the Deep South and travel North through the Underground Railroad to seek freedom in this new musical commissioned by Segerstrom Center. Their route through the Louisiana bayous, the bustling city of New Orleans, and the young town of Lawrence, Kansas introduce Lawrence, Minnie, and the audience to the diverse, multi-faceted lives of Black Americans during this time period. While acknowledging the realities of slavery, North brings out the full experience of freedom-seekers: optimism, bravery, playfulness, wonder, suspense, and mystery.

Somos Amigos: Songs on Common Ground
Friendship is at the heart of this joyful new collaboration between Mexican songstress and Latin GRAMMY® nominee Sonia De Los Santos and the GRAMMY® Award-winning Americana folk duo The Okee Dokee Brothers. This bilingual program for kids includes both old and new songs that span the musical traditions of North America and illustrate the collective power of singing together and learning from each other. With an adventurous spirit and a common vision of peace and understanding, Somos Amigos encourages young and old to explore, dance, sing and laugh together, hand-in-hand.

Ugly Duckling
Meet the most unusual duckling the pond has ever seen! In their nest at the edge of a pond, the baby ducklings wait impatiently for Mommy’s enormous egg to hatch. But their new brother doesn’t look like everyone else. Teased and called Ugly by his siblings, our hero goes on an adventure in search of a place to fit in. tutti frutti brings to life Hans Christian Andersen’s well-known tale with a variety of characters, inventive physicality, and live music and songs that quack and trill. This charming production plays with the importance of identity, self-worth and takes us on a journey to discover inner beauty.

GRIMMZ Fairy Tales
Jay and Will Grimmz, the hip-hop fable story dance-pop sensation, have come back home to the city where they grew up to give a concert. They’re known not just for their sounds, but for their powerful storytelling, an inventive remix of familiar classics. The brothers put a modern spin on valuable life lessons in Snow White and the Seven Shawties, Down with Rapunzel, Hanzel & Gretel: Lost in the Hood, and their featured first Granny-winning song, Break, Cinderella, Break! Pay your bling, hear them sing, and get ready to drop the mic in this unforgettable theatrical experience.

Look Out! Science is coming!
Nothing says science like KABOOM! Doktor Kaboom is an over-the-top German physicist with an unbridled and contagious passion for science. Sporting chrome goggles, orange lab coat, motorcycle boots, and wicked cool hair, Doktor Kaboom travels the world, thrilling adults and children alike with an explosive comedic style that is guaranteed to please. Returning to Segerstrom Center with his original show, the good Doktor will captivate audiences with his hilarious and fun series of increasingly spectacular, and (often) successful, demonstrations of the physical sciences.
