Disney Musicals in Schools

Add a little magic to your school with Disney Musicals in Schools! For over eight years, Segerstrom Center for the Arts has presented this special opportunity that introduces the collaborative art of musical theater to Orange County schools with the aim of strengthening arts programming and developing partnerships among students, faculty, staff and the greater community.

Each year, four elementary schools are selected to participate free of charge. Schools receive a 17-week residency which culminates in a 30-minute Disney KIDS Musical at your school site. Working with professional teaching artists, your faculty will build skills necessary to produce a musical theater show starring your students. Through this process, students develop self-confidence, practice collaboration, and strengthen speaking and reading skills while learning musical theater techniques.

Words from Participants

Michelle Chamberlain, Teacher, Webber Elementary
These shy, timid, insecure students began to bloom, and seeing this happen made our hearts full. These big personalities that were hidden and never given a chance to shine were now getting their time in the spotlight. DMIS has been one of the most fulfilling things we've ever done for our students, our school, and our community. Back in September, we realized that dreams come in a size too big so that you can slowly grow into them.

Teacher, Adams Elementary, Santa Ana
It gave our students self-confidence and a sense of belonging. Our community was so impressed with the show and all the hard work that went into it from teachers and students. I saw the students appreciate their own hard work and learn what it takes to put on something important to them.

Jonthan G., Role of Mowgli in The Jungle Book

There are more than 100 reasons why this show and all cast/crew/teachers put together was a blast. I think it brought out the best in me. Before this show I was shy and scared of performing. It was fun to see what I'm capable of. This was super-duper fun for me and I hope it continues in the future.
