Máire Clerkin is an internationally recognized Irish dancer, choreographer, teacher, actor, and storyteller from London. Her storytelling program, Once Upon a Time in Ireland, draws on her family's Irish heritage. She shares her favorite Celtic legends and invites audience participation with rhymes, body percussion, and--if space allows--fun dance routines!
Irish Dance & Drama
In a creative combination of dance and drama, students learn to fuse theatrical techniques with traditional Irish dance and Celtic folktales creating truly unique performance pieces rich in Ireland’s cultural and artistic traditions. Throughout this residency students will develop skills in literacy, cultural awareness, creative expression, physical movement and dramatic performance.

Traditional, Rhythmic and Creative Irish Dance
Learn to Irish dance with basic steps, technique, and lively warmup routines. Students discover the culture of Ireland with maps, music, and traditional Reels and Jigs.

Write Move! Literacy Through Dance
Throughout the residency, students will learn how to use a variety of grade level specific writing genres to describe the Irish Dances they are taught. Journalist and professional Irish dance teacher Máire Clerkin uses dance as a tool to motivate, inspire, and support all students to write. Lessons designed to adhere to Common Core State Standards.
