Where will camp take place?
Five Days of Broadway classes will take place indoors, on the campus of Segerstrom Center for the Arts. We will be using several spaces within the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. In the event that current CDC COVID-19 exposure guidelines or any national, state, or local health and safety policies prohibit camp from taking place in person, the camp will not be cancelled, but instead, will transition to a virtual format.
-
How do I register for camp? Will there be an audition?
You may register by clicking on the “Register” tab. Camp registration is not audition based, and camp spaces will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Camp space is limited so we encourage you to register as soon as possible.
-
What age must campers be in order to participate?
The Middle School Week is for ages 11-13 and the High School Week is for ages 14-19. Age is calculated based off of their age as of September 1st, 2023 (not as of the camp start date) in order to appropriately accommodate campers with summer birthdays. Because this camp is first come, first served, and not audition-based, no exceptions will be made to the minimum or maximum ages for each week.
-
Do campers need to have performance experience?
They do not! Campers of all experience levels are welcome and the faculty will tailor their instruction to each camper's particular needs.
-
What classes will be offered?
Five Days of Broadway 2023 will include classes in Musical Theater, Acting, Dance, Improvisation, and Ensemble. Each week will also offer electives and special classes such as stage combat, hip hop, theatrical makeup and puppetry. Campers will receive the full schedule of classes a few weeks prior to the start date of camp.
-
Who will teach the classes?
Our faculty includes some of the industry's leading professional artists and educators. You will find a list of our faculty and their biographies under the “Faculty” tab.
-
How many campers will there be?
There will be a total of 45 campers for the Middle School week and 36 campers for the High School week. For many classes, campers will be split into smaller groups by age.
-
My camper is attending with a sibling or friend. How do I make sure they are in all the same classes?
Campers have some classes all together and some split into smaller groups by age. Given the small age ranges for each camp week, even campers with birthdays only a month apart may be in different groups. To avoid this, please notify us of the camper names so that we can ensure they are put into the same small groups!
-
Will there be a performance at the end of camp?
There will not be a formal performance. Five Days of Broadway focuses on building skills, rather than putting on a show. However, family and friends are invited to attend a short presentation of the campers’ work in progress followed by a reception beginning at 4:00 p.m. on the final day of camp. Further details on this presentation will be provided closer to the final day of camp.
-
What if I need to cancel my registration?
Campers may withdraw from camp and request to receive a full refund by notifying the Center in writing at least 30 days prior to the first day of camp. Refunds, full or partial, will not be issued should the camper withdraw less than 30 days prior to the first date of camp. The only exception is a medical reason, which requires a physician’s note. In the event of a withdrawal due to a medical issue, should the withdrawal occur before the start of camp, a full refund will be issued. Should the withdrawal occur during camp, a pro-rated refund will be issued.
-
Do you offer scholarships?
Yes. We do offer a limited number of full and partial scholarships. Please visit the "Scholarships" tab for more information.
Health and Safety Information
-
What is Segerstrom Center doing to make sure camp is safe?
It is the goal of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts to foster a safe and healthy environment for all employees, guests, campers, faculty, and artists. The following are the most up-to-date health & safety policies for our Five Days of Broadway 2023 Summer Camp.
Self-Health Screening
Segerstrom Center will not conduct daily health screenings, but we ask that campers conduct the following self-health screening before coming to camp each day:
- Are you experience any symptoms of COVID-19 which may include, but is not limited to a fever over 100.4 F, cough, difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or running nose, nausea and/or diarrhea?
- Have you been exposed to anyone who is symptomatic for COVID-19 or exposed to anyone who suspects they have COVID-19?
If this self-assessment indicates any COVID symptoms or potential exposure to COVID, the camper must stay home. Alternatively, if a camper begins to feel unwell during class, the camper must inform Segerstrom Center’s staff and the parent/guardian will be contacted immediately to pick them up. Should the camper indicate COVID symptoms or be potentially exposed to COVID, they will need to act in accordance with current CDC exposure, isolation, and quarantine guidelines. You can find the CDC's current exposure guidelines here: CDC Exposure Guidelines
Cleanliness Policies
Below is a list of the new cleanliness measures that the Center has implemented to ensure the safest environment for learning for our campers and staff.
MERV-14 air filters are used to optimize air quality inside our venues, as well as state-of-the-art air handling systems that maximize fresh air intake
Prior to camp each day, restrooms, classrooms, walkways, and lobbies will be cleaned. Our housekeeping team will follow rigorous cleaning procedures and guidelines as provided by the CDC and our industrial hygiene firm, TRC.
Hand sanitizer will be readily available at various locations throughout the campus. We also encourage use of a barrier (tissue or cloth) for all high-touch entry pointes such as door handles, push plates, ADA access buttons, elevator buttons, etc.
Restrooms
Campers will be given ample break time between classes and access to multiple restrooms and will be encouraged to wash their hands frequently. All restrooms are equipped with touchless flush valves, soap dispensers and faucets. Restrooms will be thoroughly cleaned prior to the start of camp each day.
-
Will vaccines or masks be required?
Masks and vaccines will not be required this year. All campers who prefer to wear a mask are highly encouraged to do so. This policy is subject to change based on Segerstrom Center, national, state and/or local policies and mandates.
-
What happens if a camper or staff member tests positive for COVID-19?
If a camper and/or staff member tests positive for COVID, all campers and staff members who may have been in contact will be notified and should act in accordance with current CDC exposure guidelines. Additionally, should the current CDC exposure guidelines prohibit camp from continuing in person, camp will immediately transition online, with classes being conducted via Zoom, rather than in person. Please do not register for camp if you are unwilling to attend virtually should that become the only way forward. The current CDC exposure guidelines can be found here: CDC Exposure Guidelines
Camp Drop off / Pick up & Attendance
-
How will drop-off and pick-up work?
All campers will be required to enter and exit the building via the front Concert Hall entrance (map will be provided prior to camp). Once the day is over, campers will be released one by one once they know their parent/caretaker has arrived to pick them up, unless camper is able to drive themselves. Our staff will be available to meet you at drop off and pick up if wish to speak with us.
-
When can I drop off my camper?
Staff will be in place to greet campers beginning 20 minutes prior to the camp start time. Please do not drop off your camper before the staff arrives.
-
What if my camper needs to be picked up early/come in late?
To ensure the best class experience for everyone, we do ask that our campers make every effort to attend the full day of classes every day. However, should a camper need to leave early or come in late, please notify the Five Days of Broadway staff the day prior (or earlier, if known) of the drop off/pick up time and one of our staff will escort the camper to/from classes at that time. If you do not notify us, there will not be staff in place to admit your camper (our doors will be LOCKED and the doors are not staffed) or escort them from class.
-
What do I do if my camper will be absent?
Should a camper become ill and be unable to attend class, please notify us as soon as possible so that our staff is aware that he/she will not be in attendance that day.
-
What are the parking options for students driving themselves to camp?
There are several paid parking garages located near Segerstrom Center for the Arts. These garages are not owned or operated by the Center and we will not provide validation. For parking garage locations, CLICK HERE.
Camp Supplies and Etiquette
-
What will be provided for campers?
Segerstrom Center for the Arts will provide all campers with a three-ring binder for their materials such as sheet music and scenes, a name badge, and a camp t-shirt. Campers do not need to bring any class materials with them unless they choose to do so. All sheet music, scenes and other materials needed for camp will be provided for them. Additionally, each camper will be provided with a designated “gear spot” for any bags, personal belongings, and water bottles.
-
What should/shouldn’t campers bring with them? Will lunch be provided?
Water
Campers and staff are expected to bring their own water bottles. Water coolers will be available for refilling water bottles.Lunch
Campers also must bring their own bag lunch each day - lunch will NOT be provided. We do not have coolers or refrigerators for lunches, so please pack accordingly.Electronics
Cell phones and other electronics should be left in a bag/backpack and turned off during classes. Please leave any unnecessary devices, equipment, etc. at home.Music
Any campers that have a specific song they would like to work on during the week should bring sheet music (this is completely voluntary and not required). -
What should campers wear?
Campers should wear comfortable clothing and shoes appropriate for moving and dancing. Specific dance clothing and/or shoes are not required (tennis shoes/athletic shoes are fine), but students may wear them if preferred. Except for changing shoes, there will not be time to change before or after dance class, so clothing should be comfortable for both dance class as well as all other classes.
