Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher Appreciation Week celebrates the hard work and lasting impact of educators everywhere. This week we take the opportunity to express our gratitude for all that they do.

Segerstrom Center for the Arts has a heartfelt appreciation for the talented teachers both on and off campus who are helping bring art in many forms to students everywhere.

From our on-campus instructors or the teaching artists who work to promote arts education within the greater community, we wanted to highlight a few groups of teachers we engage with and show our appreciation!

Studio D faculty
At Studio D: Arts School for All Abilities, our teachers continue to foster a positive, encouraging environment designed for those with physical and cognitive disabilities, sensory sensitivities, hearing and visual impairments and other varying needs. With two professional teaching artists and a licensed occupational or physical therapist leading every class, every Studio D student gets to experience a small class tailored to their group with an opportunity to learn, and develop friendships, and explore the arts. Our teachers celebrate little gains with snaps, silent applause and high gives to create a positive learning environment and all students, no matter their ability, come away from classes with something new.

American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School faculty
Our ABT William J. Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts provides students with outstanding classical ballet curriculum from professionally trained instructors. Incorporating elements of French, Italian and Russian schools of training, ABT Gillespie teachers educate students on the core ballet principles of correct posture, placement, musicality, and coordination. Their knowledge throughout years of instruction creates engaging classes with live accompanists that encourages a true appreciation of the artform. With the support and expert instruction from their teachers, students have gone on to pursue ballet professionally at universities and in ballet companies across the globe.

Tuesday Night Dance guest instructors
Tuesday Night Dance has been a tradition on the Julianne and George Argyros Plaza since 2019, and each summer, we welcome a handful of guest instructors to teach our participants a different style of dance. From salsa to hula and to line dancing, our teachers have introduced the Tuesday Night Dance community to 13 styles of dance and as Tuesday Night Dance has grown in popularity, some teachers have even come back to teach a second or third year of their dance style! Classes like Bollywood and Broadway have been a staple of Tuesday Night Dance, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring in instructors from local studios to teach.

Tuesday Night Dance is continuing throughout the summer and this month, Toni Kemehana Pasion returns to the Plaza to teach hula and share her knowledge on this island-based art form. Reserve a spot in a free class here.
