4 Questions With Anaïs Mitchell
Tony Award-winning singer-songwriter and playwright Anaïs Mitchell began her creation of Hadestown with a concept album released in 2006. Over the past decade, Hadestown blossomed into one of the biggest musicals currently on Broadway and swept the 2019 Tony Awards with 8 wins.
Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales — that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone — as it invites you on a thrilling journey to the underworld and back. Anaïs Mitchell’s beguiling melodies pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love to create the haunting theatrical experience that audiences can’t get enough of.
Hadestown comes to Segerstrom Center from August 9–21 and we got a chance to ask Anaïs Mitchell a few questions about her career and how this show came to be. Interested in learning more about her?
