POSITION SUMMARY:
Security plays an important role with the Center to ensure a safe, secure, and friendly environment for all patrons, performers, guests, and staff who work or attend events within the Center campus. The Security Department is responsible for always protecting the Center’s facilities.
Security Officers provide for personal safety, physical security of employees, patrons, and property of the Segerstrom Center for The Arts campus. This position is full-time, non-exempt.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES*:
- Operate and monitor security access control panels, alarms, and CCTV systems.
- Follow and enforce established policies and procedures.
- Maintain working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, access routes and admitting requirements.
- Check ID badges of people entering the facilities to verify legitimate admission.
- Provide information and directions to patrons and employees.
- Patrol and inspect the facility and report security and general maintenance problems to the proper authorities/departments.
- Maintain logs and records, complete paperwork, and use a computer terminal to input and retrieve data. Process lost and found items.
- Observe and report incidents, await the arrival of emergency personnel and direct them to the scene of the incident. Render aid when appropriate.
- Responsible for package receiving.
- Patrol assigned areas. Check for suspicious occurrences and enforce parking regulations.
- Respond to and investigate situations reported to the Security Department.
- Wear assigned department uniforms.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, verbal and written, is required.
- Ability to evaluate situations and use good judgment in resolving issues.
- Must have basic computer operational knowledge.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to gather and organize facts and complete clear, concise reports.
- Exercise alertness and be able to act quickly, calmly and with good judgment in an emergency.
- Operation of various security equipment.
- Must have the ability to sit, stand and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to be an effective listener and discuss problems respectfully.
- Dress appropriately for the occasion with proper grooming.
- Daily and punctual attendance required.
- Ability to work day, night and overnight shift hours.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Possess a valid California driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS*:
- Required to walk periodically and throughout the 8-hour shift (not including meal and rest periods), making rounds around the campus which will also include going up and down several flights of stairs.
- Must be able to stand throughout an 8-hour shift (not including meal and rest periods).
- May also sit at a posted position periodically and/or throughout the 8-hour shift (not including meal and rest periods).
- Demonstrate manual dexterity while using hands including heavy use of keyboard.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and have good hearing.
- Must also be able to reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch.
- May be required to periodically lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
- Must have good vision to include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus while maneuvering through both light and dark spaces and in stairways.

WORK CONDITIONS:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet, the desk area well-lit and room temperature controlled while in the office.
- When in event spaces, the noise levels can be very loud, work areas subject to low and high intensity lighting levels, and varying degrees of temperature.
