Event Operations Crew (Part-Time)


POSITION SUMMARY:
Our Event Operations Crew members facilitate the power of the performing arts to transform lives and create a more culturally connected and vital community. As directed by Operations Management, Production Management, or designated supervisors, the Event Operations Crew sets up events in Samueli Theater, Judy Morr Theater, Argyros Plaza, studio spaces, rehearsal spaces, lobby areas, and other facilities on the Segerstrom Center for the Arts campus. This opportunity is a part-time position. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES*:

  • Assist in setting up tables, chairs, audience seating risers, drapery, event décor, and other elements required for shows and events.
  • Assist Event Staff in setting up theatrical systems such as lighting, audio, video, stage decking, drapery, seating configurations, etc.
  • Assist in facilities equipment maintenance, storage, and other support duties as needed.
  • Assist in the selling of Merchandise.

*-  Other duties may be assigned in support of departmental goals

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

  • Basic technical theatre / live event support experience preferred but not required.
  • Basic office computer skills preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively with varying levels of staff and outside parties such as artists, vendors, and clients.
  • Ability to take direction from a variety of personnel and work as a positive team member.
  • Strong work ethic with a willingness to learn and grow.
  • Willing to work efficiently and safely in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
  • Flexibility to accommodate varying production and event needs.
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS*: 

  • Occasional desk-based computer tasks, use telephone, and write by hand 
  • Possess manual dexterity to finger, handle, and feel
  • Regularly walk, run, pull, and push in the performance of duties
  • Frequently stand, reach, stoop, kneel and crouch
  • Ability to speak clearly with sufficient hearing to communicate effectively
  • Occasional ladder use
  • Periodically lift and move up to 50 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

  • A fast-paced and ever-changing environment
  • Regular exposure to outside weather conditions
  • Occasional work in the evenings or on the weekends
  • Noise level is typically low. Regularly above average during live events and performances.
