Marc-André Hamelin and the Pacifica Quartet
Pianist Marc-André Hamelin and the Pacifica Quartet return to the Center for the type of occasion that becomes music history: the world premiere of a work performed by the composer himself. It will be the first of two world premieres in the 2016 – 2017 Chamber Series commissioned by Elizabeth and Justus Schlichting for the Center.
When Hamelin and the Pacifica performed in Samueli Theater last, The Orange County Register critic wrote, “The piano part, especially, is muscularly virtuosic and Hamelin had a field day with it. Soaring in melody and digging into sinews, the Pacifica Quartet matched his momentousness ….” This will be an artistic milestone for Hamelin, the Pacifica, the Center’s 30th anniversary – and music.
