One of the finest symphony orchestras in Eastern Europe, the Grammy-nominated National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine performs Romantic masterworks including Dvorak’s lively and colorful Carnival Overture and Rachmaninoff’s Third Symphony. Pianist Alex Slobodyanik, winner of the Young Concert Artists International Auditions and son of the late legend Alexander Slobodyanik, joins them to perform Prokofiev’s vibrant Piano Concerto No. 3. Following an appearance by the orchestra in Moscow, Dmitri Shostakovich commented: “This orchestra has as distinguished a group of performers as one would be likely to find anywhere. The ensemble of the orchestra is of the highest level. In addition, the various soloists and instrumental groups within the Orchestra play exceptionally and complement each other beautifully—as would the greatest of the world’s symphony orchestras.”
