Parade is the story of relationships and focuses on the marriage of Leo and Lucille Frank. The musical is set against the background of the famous 1913 trial of Leo Frank, who is accused of murdering a 13 year old employee, Mary Phagan. Frank, a shy Jewish factory manager, becomes the center of the investigation when the political machine demands a quick resolution to the case. His Yankee upbringing is resented in the south and the trial is sensationalized by the media, arousing anti-Semitic tensions in Atlanta and the state of Georgia.

Frank's wife, Lucille, convinces Georgia Governor Jack Slaton to open an inquiry into the trial due to inconsistencies in the evidence, but others with eyes on controlling Georgia's political future see upholding the Frank conviction as their key to power. Leo, who had considered his wife incapable of assisting in his defense, begins to appreciate that Lucille is his greatest advocate. Together, can they convince the governor to commute Leo's sentence? A commutation will be the end of Slaton's political power.

Parade is a rare example of compelling modern American musical theater, with the emphasis on story and characters. The show won Tony Awards for best score and best book in 1999 and is currently in revival on the west coast. Don't miss this regional premiere!
