  Fred Hersch Trio
Center Debut
May 2 & 3, 2014

Fred Hersch is a truly masterful jazz pianist: he has a strong yet controlled touch which he uses up and down the full keyboard with an impeccable rhythmic and harmonic sense. He improvises with the sharp conceptual clarity of a classical composer; rather than merely skim atop the familiar chord changes of standard songs, he forges them into rigorously structured, highly personal re-creations. Hersch has produced a remarkable body of work brought to life with an incomparable ability to play music that is as intelligent as it is touching, as virtuosic as it is swinging.
